Compo rules

We will do our best to present all entries delivered to us, even if they don't fully conform to the rules.

Entries will be published on this site and possibly on Skrolli's communities after the party, unless the author explicitly requests otherwise.

Changes to the rules are possible.

General rules

Entries must not have been published before. A port of an existing entry to a new platform can be accepted if it involves significant creative effort and is not just a mechanical translation.

External materials may be used as part of the entry, as long as the author's creative touch is evident. You must have permission to use such materials.

Using tools based on generative AI is permitted, but the entry must not be wholly or mostly produced by AI. The author is responsible for verifying that content produced by AI does not violate copyrights of third parties.

Participating

The primary method of submitting entries is the compo web system.

If you're unable to use the compo web system for some reason, you can submit your entry via email. If the entry is larger than 5 megabytes, we recommend using a file sharing service and sending a link instead of an attachment. The message should include the name of the entry, name of the author/group and which category you are participating in. You can also send the link and information via an instant messaging application.

At the party place we also accept entries delivered physically on a USB memory stick.

The deadline for submitting entries is three hours before the start of the compo.

You can also participate remotely. Please let us know your contact details so we can deliver your prize, should you win one.

Presentation

Entries will be presented using a 1080p resolution video projector at a 60 Hz refresh rate.

The time allotted for a single entry is at least three minutes. Overly long entries may be cut short if necessary to stay on schedule.

If there's a very large amount of entries, the organizers reserve the right to select only some of them to be presented in the compo.

Realtime compo

The entry must be an executable program which produces an audiovisual presentation primarily through computation. The entry may include data files in addition to the program.

The organizers provide Linux and Windows computers for running entries (see specs below). If your entry doesn't work on this platforms, you can bring your own hardware for presentation. Please be in touch with the organizers to arrange this.

It's possible to test your entry on the compo machine at the party place.

The entry should preferably be possible to launch directly in fullscreen mode. If any command line switches are required, they should be documented in an instruction file included with the entry.

The compo runner system can inject simple key presses or mouse clicks at fixed coordinates to start the entry.

Wild compo

The entry must be an image, audio or video file. All common formats are supported. If in doubt, ask.

The content of the entry can be produced by any means which doesn't conflict with the general rules. Examples: drawing, animation, music tracker, photo, modular synthesizer, video capture.

Fast photo compo

The entry must be a photo taken at the party place. The photo must include certain elements ot themes, which are revealed during the party.

Light postprocessing is allowed, for example adjusting exposure, colors or cropping.
